Why is restaurant staff training important?

Answer:

Restaurant staff training is important so staff improve skills, have job satisfaction, give quality service & reduce accidents.

Consider the following when training your staff:

    • put the employee at ease so that they feel comfortable with you
    • ask what they already know about the job
    • give them an explanation, a demonstration and practice with each task
    • before you move onto the next step, make sure that what you have shown the staff member has been understood – if not – show them again
    • ask your employee to try to do the task themselves.  Again, if they are having problems with it, repeat your demonstration slowly
    • encourage them to ask questions if they are not sure about anything
    • be prepared to answer questions accurately and, if you don’t know all the answers admit it and promise to find out  Try to anticipate the sort of questions you may be asked so that you will have your answers ready
    • never ask an employee to do something that you wouldn’t do yourself
    • treat each employee as an individual

It is essential, for the success and the safe running of your business, that your staff all know why and how a job has to be done.  Good training helps them to give quality service and to reduce the number of accidents in the workplace.
