The better known you and your products become, the better it will be for your business.

If potential customers have heard your name before or read about you in the local paper, they will be much more receptive when you approach them for business or when they see your products on sale.

There are a number of things you can do to try and build up awareness. Your local newspaper may be interested in doing a story on you when you first start-up and if you are clever you may be able to get them to do follow-up stories whenever you do something of particular local interest.  The local radio station might also be persuaded to interview you, and if this works well they could always invite you back to do a longer talk.

A press release is quite easy to write.  Stick to the facts and write them out in a clear and logical fashion with the most interesting points first.  Make sure you have your contact details at the top and then type the words PRESS RELEASE in capitals.  Follow this with a headline outlining the contents of the release.
