Photography is considered a very important aspect of most couples’ weddings.  Choosing the right photographer is vital, as he or she will be capturing the memories you will keep for a lifetime.  However, it is often difficult to choose from the many services and styles of photography available.  Here are a few considerations that may help you with your selection.

It is important to decide what style of photograph you want.  Most photographers are proficient in many styles, with particular characteristics making their work unique.  When selecting your photographer take time to look at the photographs they have on show and, if possible, photos of a full wedding.  Ensure they can produce the style of photography you want and any special effects.  Once you find a photographer you really like it is time to compare prices and services.  It is not easy to find out how much it will cost because as with all services, it depends on the quality you want and how you want your photographs presented.

Most photographers will start at the bride’s home about one hour prior to the ceremony, then to the church for the groomsmen, ceremony and family shots.  After this, the bridal party usually accompanies the photographer to a pre-arranged location for about two hours of photography.

The photographer will then usually accompany you to the reception, and either stay or photograph a mock cutting of the cake, bridal waltz and so forth.

Some photographers include an ‘engagement shoot’, which is basically a pre-run to the wedding day, with you and your fiancée accompanying the photographer to the main photographic location.

They’ll usually take just a few shots, to help you become familiar with their technique, and also to help find the best photographic features of the area.

It is important to book a photographer about six to twelve months prior to the wedding date.  However, for busy periods like Easter, more popular photographers can be booked out 18 months in advance.

Wedding photographers are generally creative people who work continually on creating different and exciting wedding photographs.  A good professional wedding photographer will usually take a wide variety of pictures. Taking a photograph is not just a case of pressing a button it is often a combination of posing, special effects, filters, high-quality camera equipment, film and lighting.
